FUN FACTS

Writers spend a lot of time in their pajamas, sitting at a computer. That’s one of my favorite parts of the job, but it doesn’t make for an exciting biography. That’s why I’ve compiled a list of fun facts. For the boring stuff, click here for the PRESS KIT.

  • Because redheads only make up 1-2% of the population, I include one in all my novels.

  • I was born in Wisconsin, moved to Florida when I was eight, and moved back when I was 23.

  • When I was a kid, Scooby Doo was my favorite show, and Are You There, God? It's Me, Margaret was my favorite book.

  • At thirteen I had a massive crush on Luke Skywalker in Return of the Jedi and hung the movie poster on the back of my door.

  • I had a freaky experience with a Ouija board and to this day, won’t go near one.

  • I worked several jobs as a teenager: cashier at Wendy’s, restaurant hostess, lifeguard, babysitter, and camp counselor.

  • At the end of my senior year of high school, my teacher persuaded me to enter a writing contest. I won $1,500, enough for a prom dress and part of my college tuition.

  • I broke my nose 4 ½ times.

  • We own a crested gecko named Bilbo, guinea pig named Beans, black goldfish named Death, and Great Dane named Biggie Smalls (Biggs).

  • I love collecting old typewriters. I bought my favorite Underwood at a rummage sale for only $5.  That's the same kind Stephen King used to type his first novel, Carrie.

  • My son, Finn, painted the artwork on my website header when he was in eighth grade.
