FUN FACTS
Writers spend a lot of time in their pajamas, sitting at a computer. That’s one of my favorite parts of the job, but it doesn’t make for an exciting biography. That’s why I’ve compiled a list of fun facts. For the boring stuff, click here for the PRESS KIT.

Because redheads only make up 1-2% of the population, I include one in all my novels.

I was born in Wisconsin, moved to Florida when I was eight, and moved back when I was 23.

When I was a kid, Scooby Doo was my favorite show, and Are You There, God? It's Me, Margaret was my favorite book.

At thirteen I had a massive crush on Luke Skywalker in Return of the Jedi and hung the movie poster on the back of my door.

I had a freaky experience with a Ouija board and to this day, won’t go near one.

I worked several jobs as a teenager: cashier at Wendy’s, restaurant hostess, lifeguard, babysitter, and camp counselor.

At the end of my senior year of high school, my teacher persuaded me to enter a writing contest. I won $1,500, enough for a prom dress and part of my college tuition.

I broke my nose 4 ½ times.

We own a crested gecko named Bilbo, guinea pig named Beans, black goldfish named Death, and Great Dane named Biggie Smalls (Biggs).

I love collecting old typewriters. I bought my favorite Underwood at a rummage sale for only $5. That's the same kind Stephen King used to type his first novel, Carrie.

My son, Finn, painted the artwork on my website header when he was in eighth grade.
